I was pretty much a hobby sewer until 2006 when an event called swap-o-ramma literally changed my life. It was there that the light bulb in my head went off and it hasnt burned out since. I started designing with reconstructed fashion and as I tore garments apart and reassembled them I learned as I went and evolved into creating my own designs.
Using mostly recycled vintage sheets and fabrics my designs are eco-friendly and made of 80-100% reclaimed textiles. Even my zippers and notions are bought second hand. My designs are a 60s meets 80s eclectic and whimsical style. Full of fun characters from my childhood like Holly Hobbie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Rainbow Brite to name a few. Many people have said my designs remind them of their childhood. And thats my intent. To make fashion thats fun, and gives you a personal feeling about wearing it.
Ive always been eclectic. Ive never been one to follow the masses and wear whats trendy. And I also believe in a cause. Every year its estimated that the average person discards 85lbs of clothing. Multiply that by millions of people just in the USA alone. Thats a lot of textile waste. I believe its important to use what we have, as it seems we have an abundance of it. Yet the fashion industry keeps creating more and more. Its important to me to raise awareness of these issues, and I do that by keeping my designs eco-friendly.
I source all my materials from second hand retailers, yard sales and flea markets. I conceptualize and design all of my garments. Every item is unique and one of a kind. Its proudly sweatshop free :)
